Remember the “giant” Trump-baby balloon that took to the very-low-altitude skies during the President’s UK visit this summer? After months of hype the thing was revealed and it was, in a word, underwhelming. It was supposed to cast a shadow over all of London, but instead hovered a few feet over a middling demonstration.
In case you’ve forgotton what is now the first volley in the political ballooon wars, here’s a picture:
Well, now Trump’s baby balloon has some competition. A crowdsourced effort led by Yanny Bruere has raised £58,000 to design, and construct a giant, crying, Sadiq Khan balloon which will sail through the skies of London wearing a yellow bikini.
This comes after the London Mayor last month granted permission for a giant balloon of Donald Trump in diapers to fly over the capital as part of the protest against Trump’s UK visit.
Organiser Yanny Gruere claims to have raised £58,000 online to erect the balloon as part of his campaign “Make London Safe Again.”
Mr Bruere said he’s been furious by Mr Khan’s focus on scoring political points instead of solving the soaring London crime rates that have increased since the mayor was elected in 2016.
On the balloons crowdfunding page, Bruere wrote:
“Under Sadiq Khan, we have seen crime sky rocket to unprecedented levels. People in London don’t feel safe and they aren’t safe, 81 murders this year alone! Khan Out. …Any surplus money raised will be used for a continuing campaign to remove Sadiq Khan from office and also for defending free speech which is constantly under attack.”
Sadiq Khan has responded to the balloon, saying:
“If people want to spend their Saturday looking at me in a yellow bikini they’re welcome to do so.
“I don’t really think yellow’s my colour though.”
No word on how the inflatable, but Earthbound, Trump Chicken feels about all this.
