Remember that whole thing about how the redactions of the Mueller report represent an obvious coverup? How Attorney General Barr blacked out those passages because what they say reveal Donald Trump is guilty of . . . whatever it is?
Why, if only senior congressional Democrats could see those redacted passages! Then they would have the proof they need that Trump is guilty, and Barr is his accomplice!
Er, except for one small detail. According to today’s Wall Street Journal, Barr has indeed offered senior members of Congress the opportunity to come over to the Justice Department and inspect the redacted passages.

Now, since Democrats have made nothing a bigger issue than need to see what was behind those redactions, you’d have to think there’d be a throng of Democrats waiting outside Barr’s door first thing in the morning, right? It would be like what the Apple dorks do when an new iPhone comes out – camped outside the Apple Store in the mall, eating Cinnabons and taking bathroom shifts while they wait for those chains to be raised.
As it happens, exactly three members of Congress have shown up to inspect the redacted sections. And would you like to know which three Democrats these are? I would be happy to tell you. They are:

They are Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham, and Rep. Doug Collins.
But wait a minute, you say. McConnell, Graham and Collins are a Republicans.

Why yes. They are.
So what about all the Democrats who wanted to read the redacted portions? Which of them showed up? And how many? 20? 50? 100?
Yeah, about that . . . as it turned out, not a single Democrat has shown up to review the redacted portions of the Mueller report, despite all of them demanding to be allowed to see it.
Now how could this be? Why would they not take advantage of Barr’s offer to give them exactly what they’ve been demanding? The reason is obvious. They don’t really want to see the redactions. They just want to demand to see the redactions. They want to complain about not having seen them. That’s valuable to them. That allows them to keep the absurd “coverup” narrative alive.
If they actually see the redactions, they’ll know there’s nothing in them that’s damaging to Trump and nothing that supports their coverup narrative.

By the way, do you know why Barr will only let them inspect the passages but not keep copies? Because if he lets them keep copies, the copies will be leaked to the press inside of an hour.
So if they can’t use the information to hurt Trump, and they can’t use it for strategic press leaks, then they don’t want to see it at all. They’re better off maintaining the fantasy that the redactions hide the crimes of the century, and prove Barr is Trump’s accomplice. The term “don’t bother me with the facts” has never been more pertinent than it is in this case.
