You heard the premise: Liberal elites decide to hunt down Trump-loving, MAGA hat-wearing deplorables for sport!
This time Hollywood’s gone too far in its hatred of conservatives!

Well. Hollywood isn’t going so far after all because, at least for now, the film isn’t being released. The backlash got the attention of the suits at Universal Pictures and they’ve decided it’s too hot for them at the moment, particularly in the aftermath of such recent mass shootings as we saw in El Paso and Dayton.
So you won’t be able to buy a gigantic tub of popcorn and settle in to watch deplorables getting blown away at your neighborhood mega-cineplex. But is this really the conservative victory people think it is?
I’m not so sure.
TRENDING: Hillary regurgitates Chinese propaganda to accuse Trump of racism
Obviously I haven’t seen the whole film, but I saw the trailer. It doesn’t look to me like the producers intend for the liberal elites to be the heroes of the film while on their hunt. If anything, they seem to be portrayed as wild-eyed, intolerant jerks. You know, the kinds of people who might want to see torches and pitchforks outside the home of a man who supports the president?
Hilary Swank insists you can’t really get what the movie is about unless you see it. Apparently we’re not going to have that chance. It may well be a spoof against the more ridiculous instincts of those on either side of the divide. Maybe they’re spoofing the left for their intolerance while spoofing the right for an oversized persecution complex.

But we’re speculating at the moment because that’s all we can do.
My gut tells me this is a blown opportunity for conservatives. If the film had been released, my guess is that audiences would have recognized more reality in the rage of the leftist hunters than in whatever was done to lampoon Trump supporters. It’s more true to life, and you see it every day in the news. You see Trump supporters being doxxed, while people like Mitch McConnell and Stephen Ross are facing angry mobs at their homes.
You see people like Maxine Waters encouraging liberals to harass Trump supporters in restaurants, while people like Sarah Huckabee Sanders are actually kicked out of restaurants just for being who they are.
It’s the left that’s unhinged right now, and this film would have portrayed that. Whether it portrays it well remains to be seen, but it makes no sense to me to think that this was really a serious film glorifying the hunting down and killing of Trump supporters.
Maybe conservatives need to think a little more deeply than their knee-jerk reactions before they jump up and protest things. It might actually get us some wins we’ve typically been too clumsy to secure.
